The 1968 Detroit Tigers were a team of destiny. After years of futility, they finally broke through and won the World Series. This book tells the story of that magical season, from the early struggles to the thrilling victory parade.

The Tigers were led by a core of All-Stars, including Al Kaline, Denny McClain, Willie Horton, and Mickey Lolich. Kaline was the team's captain and a future Hall of Famer. McClain was the reigning Cy Young Award winner. Horton was a power hitter who led the league in home runs. Lolich was a young pitcher who would go on to win two games in the World Series.

The Tigers got off to a slow start in 1968, but they soon found their groove. They won 100 games during the regular season, the most in the American League. In the playoffs, they defeated the Boston Red Sox and the Oakland Athletics to reach the World Series.

The World Series was a rematch of the 1967 World Series, which the Tigers had lost to the St. Louis Cardinals. This time, the Tigers were determined to win. They won the first two games of the series at home, but the Cardinals won the next three games in St. Louis.

The Tigers returned to Detroit for Game 6, needing to win to stay alive. Lolich pitched a complete game shutout, and the Tigers won 4-0. In Game 7, McClain pitched another complete game, and the Tigers won 4-1 to clinch the World Series.

The Tigers' victory was a major triumph for the city of Detroit. The city had been struggling with racial tensions and economic decline in the late 1960s. The Tigers' victory gave the city something to celebrate and helped to bring people together.

The 1968 Tigers were a team of destiny. They overcame adversity and won the World Series. Their story is an inspiration to us all.
